Becoming A Republic

Republic Day

On this pious occasion, I wish all my fellow citizens a very Happy 74th Republic Day!

Being a reader also makes me a thinker on day-to-day occasions. This morning I was pondering on what being a REPUBLIC in ourselves means.
Republic as a word, means a state in which supreme power is held by the people themselves. Our beloved country INDIA attained this with all the great efforts and sacrifices. But, are we heading to hold the supreme power on ourselves?

Here are some nuggets for the brain on Republic Day:

Getting over laziness

No country is great by itself, it has to strive, sacrifice and solemnly move with a purpose. We, too, need to move ahead leaving the laziness behind and do what we intend to do.

Influenced by the crowd

India became a REPUBLIC because few people thought that it is indeed our birth right. Today, in the world of social media, it is very easy to fall prey to the negativity around and be part of the crowd and forget our own identity.

This day gives us the opportunity to step aside from the crowd and think over the steps taken so far and decide the direction and vow not to get influenced by the lot.

Control over mind

The freedom struggle gave us real examples on how tough some people can be and it definitely can not be without a steady mind-set.

As Swami Vivekananda rightly pointed out – “All difference is, therefore, due to the mind.” The time has come that we connect with this power and lead a life of purpose.

So, do you have what it takes to be a REPUBLIC – winning over self?

Feel free to add in the comments your gold nuggets that will aid each citizen of this great country in the path towards attainment of rule over self !

Jai Hind ! Jai Bharat !
